Does my lease horse trust me?

I just started to lease this horse in may and I am not sure if he is starting to trust me or not. Last night I went to get him out of the pasture and he trotted up to me. I didn't ride him last night because of something that came up but I got him out and groomed him and did a little groundwork. When I put him back into the pasture he stood and looked at me until I walked into the pasture with him following behind. He also nickered the last time I was out there and he will meet me at his stall door even if there is food in there. When I first started working with him he was hard to handle but every time I go to see him it gets more enjoyable. An indication that maybe he doesn't is when I was doing groundwork there were times he would just stop and not move. I did get him moving again but I think he was unsure. With that though there was one time he stopped when we were in the area and I began to move a few feet away. He would just stand and stare at me and then after some seconds he would come to me and act almost cuddly. So I wanted opinions. Thanks.
