Why is my computer acting weird?

Ok so i oplay runescape and i play for a couple of minutes. Then all of a sudden my computer goes beserk for a couple of seconds. Some programs open without my consent and I'm not sure if its bad. The computer is around 3-4 years old and I have an xp. I dont know if its a "browser hijack" It only happens when I play Runescape.
