Why is my computer so slow?

I own a HP. (2005?) it's never been slow before but today it's just been acting up. i have wifi for internet and the signal strength is very good but when i play videos it's all choppy and i let it pause for a while but it's still choppy. and when i switch tabs it takes forever. also right now im typing it's not getting the words on fast.
